The Boston Tax Help Coalition strives to make its free tax help services accessible to all who qualify, regardless of physical ability. This year, as in past years, the Coalition teamed up with community partners to provide high-quality tax services to the deaf community.

The slideshow below walks through one of three of those tax days, held at Urban Edge in Roxbury.

 

Relay interpreters, who are deaf or hard of hearing themselves, are native users of American Sign Language (ASL). They can translate the nuances of ASL to a qualified interpreter, who is trained in rendering those signs into spoken language for the hearing tax preparer.
